Dynamics GP End of Life: Frequently Asked Questions
Short, sourced answers to the questions GP customers ask most — about dates, risk, and what evaluating Totaum looks like.
When does Microsoft Dynamics GP support end?
Microsoft ends product support, enhancements, and tax/regulatory updates on December 31, 2029. Security patches continue until April 30, 2031. See the full timeline with sources.
Will Dynamics GP stop working after 2029?
No — the software keeps running. But after December 31, 2029 there are no fixes and no payroll tax or regulatory updates, and after April 30, 2031 no security patches. For any business running payroll or statutory reporting through GP, "still runs" is not the same as "still safe to use."
Is Dynamics GP end of life 2028?
No. A 2028 date circulates in some articles, but Microsoft's official lifecycle policy is clear: product support ends December 31, 2029 and security patches end April 30, 2031. What has already happened: new perpetual license sales ended in April 2025 and new subscription sales in April 2026.
What is Totaum?
Totaum is a cloud ERP for manufacturers, distributors, and product businesses. It combines a full double-entry general ledger, inventory with lot and serial tracking, purchasing with three-way match, manufacturing (BOMs, work orders, MRP), CRM and quoting, and online invoice payments in one system — with AI document intake reading customer POs and vendor bills. See the side-by-side comparison.
Why consider Totaum instead of Dynamics 365 Business Central?
Microsoft's recommended path is Dynamics 365 Business Central, and it's a credible option for many GP customers. Totaum is worth evaluating when you want inventory, manufacturing, CRM, and customer payments in the same system as the ledger — at published per-user pricing, live in days rather than a months-long partner implementation. One honest caveat either way: Totaum pairs with your payroll provider rather than replacing GP's in-house payroll. Evaluate both against your own scenarios.
How long does a migration off Dynamics GP take?
Plan for 12–18 months from evaluation to stable go-live for a typical mid-market business. Starting in 2026–2027 leaves a real safety margin before December 2029; starting in 2029 does not. The migration guide breaks down each phase.
Can our historical GP data be migrated?
Yes. GP stores data in Microsoft SQL Server with well-documented tables. Most projects migrate master records, open transactions, and 2–3 years of summary history, then keep the GP database as a read-only archive for audit purposes.
What does Totaum cost?
Totaum's pricing is published: $49 / $79 / $110 per user per month on annual billing (month-to-month available), shop-floor operators and service technicians free, and no required implementation fee — see totaum.com/pricing. For comparison purposes, remember to count the full GP-era stack you'd be retiring: GP maintenance fees plus every ISV add-on, hosting, and support contract.
